Pentagon Releases UFO Evidence, Carefully Removes the Useful Parts
A concise account of the impossible, the improbable, and the suspiciously well-timed.
The Pentagon's fifth PURSUE release delivered 41 new UFO records from the Pentagon, FBI, CIA, State Department and White House, including military videos, infrared objects, alleged orbs and a pilot's report of an enormous silent triangle blotting out the stars above Bagram. Very transparent—except that scientists reviewing all 112 released videos found that crucial range, geometry, field-of-view, platform-motion and sensor data were frequently missing or redacted, making it impossible to determine what many objects were or whether they were moving unusually at all. So the government has shown us the mystery while withholding the measurements that might solve it. Officials call this disclosure.

Dark Matter Appears Once, Refuses Follow-Up Questions
Nearly a mile underground, inside ten tonnes of ultrapure liquid xenon shielded from practically everything, the LUX-ZEPLIN detector recorded exactly one particle interaction that scientists could not explain as known background. It appeared precisely where a particular form of dark matter might appear, survived months of scrutiny and produced a 2.6-sigma result, meaning known backgrounds had roughly a half-percent chance of accounting for it. Naturally, physicists refuse to call this a discovery until it reaches five sigma.

Entire Island Moves 30 Kilometers; Authorities Blame Weather
An island covered in mature trees suddenly appeared in British Columbia's Williston Lake where no island had been recorded, and officials initially suspected an illusion or AI fake until satellite images inconveniently confirmed that it was real. Then the two-football-field-sized landmass vanished and reappeared ten days later against a shoreline more than 30 kilometers away, trees and all. BC Hydro says record-high water and strong winds probably detached a floating mat of wood and vegetation and carried it across the reservoir. Oh, sure—an entire island uproots itself, relocates 30 kilometers under cover of weather and docks intact, and we're not even going to ask whether anything in the sky needed a place to land.

Saturn Grew a Decagon While Nobody Was Looking
Saturn already had a giant hexagon at its north pole, which apparently wasn't geometrically unsettling enough, so Hubble has now discovered an enormous ten-sided atmospheric wave circling the south pole, with a single side stretching more than 10,000 miles. Scientists believe the decagon formed sometime between 2017 and 2023—precisely while Saturn's southern pole was difficult to observe from Earth—and say it drifts eastward, behaves differently from the northern hexagon and has no settled formation mechanism. We're told this is merely exotic planetary weather. Fine. The planet waited until the cameras had a bad angle, drew a new polygon larger than Earth and resumed posing once the work was finished. Probably wind.

Mystery Mushroom Summons the Same Tiny People in Different Countries
Communities thousands of miles apart have reported the same remarkably specific experience after eating certain wild mushrooms: dozens or hundreds of tiny, elaborately dressed people walking around real objects, obeying walls and gravity and otherwise conducting miniature business in the visible world. DNA testing identified the mushrooms consumed in southwestern China and the northern Philippines as the same species, Lanmaoa asiatica, yet chemical and genomic searches found no psilocybin or any other psychoactive mushroom compound known to science. Researchers reasonably suspect an undiscovered chemical. We merely note that unrelated witnesses keep seeing the same tiny population, the mushroom refuses to disclose how it does this, and science has responded by assuring everyone that the little people definitely aren't there.

Alien Megastructures “Explained” by Two Perfect Cosmic Coincidences
Project Hephaistos searched five million stars and found seven red dwarfs giving off the suspicious infrared excess expected from hypothetical alien megastructures. James Webb has now eliminated two candidates after discovering that each star just happened to align within about one arcsecond of an unrelated dusty galaxy behind it, blending their light into an apparently artificial signal; one background galaxy may conceal a supermassive black hole, while the other is undergoing a dusty starburst. So no, these two signals weren't alien engineering. They were merely two separate, near-perfect, interstellar alignments arranged across billions of light-years to look exactly like alien engineering. The official verdict is coincidence. Fortunately, this publication already has a policy concerning those.
